Introduction

My name is Ronald Jones, I’m an attorney in Summerfield, Florida, near The Villages.

Just a tiny bit about me:

I was born in Philadelphia, raised in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, and moved to Lady Lake, Florida in 1988.

I have a Bachelors of Science in Oceanography from Florida Institute of Technology, a Masters of Arts in Communications from Temple University, a Master of Arts in American Studies from the University of Central Florida, and a Juris Doctorate, or what most people call a “law degree” from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale.

I’ve been an attorney since graduating law school and passing the bar in 1996, and opened a practice in Marion County in 1997; first in Belleview, and then in 2003 I moved to Summerfield to be a bit closer to The Villages.

I handle Estate Planning, Probate, Real Estate and other legal matters including some aspects of Elder Law. I also handle some Probate Litigation, or “Will Contests”.  I have been doing this for 21 years.

The object of this blog is to answer common questions, questions I hear over and over again from clients, from potential clients, and sometimes from other lawyers.  While I will focus on estate planning,  probate, and real estate,   sometimes life doesn’t fit into neat little boxes and there is more to life than simply death and taxes; so I will be addressing some aspects of asset protection, business law, and anything else that I see as potentially useful.

Bear in mind, I write from the perspective of a Florida attorney.  And also bear in mind that facts matter.  The answer to a particular legal question depends both on the law and the facts; and just because one particular set of facts leads to a particular result, another, slightly different set of facts may lead to an entirely different result.

Due to money problems and a deep hard depression, I never started probate and this June its been 3 years. I’ve started working again, and want to transfer things into my name or to sell them off, I am the only heir left my brother passed in 09, do I still need probate?
